Job Title: Payroll Manager

Salary: £42,000 - £45,000

Benefits: 22 days holiday, private healthcare, 5% pension, Subsidized restaurant, gym, deli

Location: Potters Bar

Hours: Mon-Fri 9.00am - 5.30pm

Purpose of role

The purpose of this role is to lead and oversee the payroll function, ensuring accurate, compliant, and timely payroll delivery while driving high service standards, team performance, and continuous process improvement.

Responsibilities

Lead and supervise the day-to-day payroll operation, ensuring all schedules, queries, and payments are processed accurately and on time
Act as the escalation point for complex payroll matters, including bank allocations, advances, pensions, and formal complaints
Manage payroll deadlines and workflows, working closely with Sales and Onboarding to support new client implementation
Maintain clear communication with internal stakeholders and clients, proactively managing issues and expectations
Review and improve payroll processes to increase efficiency, accuracy, and compliance, liaising with software providers where required
Ensure payroll processes remain fully compliant with current legislation and industry best practice
Monitor team performance, attendance, and workload, providing regular feedback and reporting to senior management
Lead training and development for the payroll team, supporting both new starters and ongoing technical development
Champion high service standards, professionalism, and a positive team culture
Deliver payroll-related projects, including system implementations, audits, and maintaining up-to-date procedure documentation
Attributes

Confident managing high volume payroll – 5000 plus across the team
Experience working for a payroll provider or Umbrella will be highly beneficial
Demonstrating the ability to lead, guide and coach a team
Effectively distributing work loads
Reviewing existing workflows, enhancing processes and compliance
Impeccable attention to detail and highly organised
